A big part of the ethos of KINESISdance is based around inclusion and the community; bringing dance to a wider variety of people, ages and settings. As part of this, I try each year to get involved in various events, raising money and awareness for deserving charities in the area, engaging a wider audience in dance, and provide people of all ages with more opportunity to access dance and performance.
Over the years we have held performances to raise money for Happy Days Children's Charity, Family Fund, Brain Tumor Support, & Macmillan Cancer Support. When I was asked to choreograph and teach a Greatest Showman Flashmob for Home Start York a few years ago, I was both excited and honoured! I worked with hundreds of people in York to create a huge mass dance in the City centre, and it really was an AMAZING experience!
We have also taken part in the Community Ties Project which involved a dance workshop where my Over 60's Dance Fitness group worked alongside children from Take A Bow Theatre Group based at Oaken Grove Community Centre in Haxby.Every Summer we hold a Big Summer Show which allows all KINESISdance members, from our smallest 4yr olds up to our wonderful adult dancers, to perform together in a theatre setting & showcase their skills, talent & development to their family & friends. It's the highlight of the KINESISdance calendar!
Some of our dance groups have been lucky enough to perform at the Dance It Up North dance showcase which is run by the York & North Yorkshire Dance Network at various locations in the area on an annual basis. In 2024 our 'Reflection' group took an exciting trip to Northallerton to take part in rehearsals and workshops throughout the day and perform a beautiful piece named 'Rain Dance' alongside several other dance groups from around North Yorkshire. It was a fabulous day, and a memorable experience for all involved!
